Influence of Wind-Generated Wave Action on Mountain Reservoir Bank Collapse: A Case Study at the Lancang River, Western China

Abstract Slopes facing reservoir water often collapse, affecting capacity. It is important to understand the factors such collapses and predict locations of collapse after impoundment for practical purposes. However, mechanism bank in mountainous areas remains unclear. To address this issue, field geotechnical property surveys, laboratory tests, numerical simulations were employed evaluate susceptibility. The results showed that (i) mainly occurs slopes with a small cohesion internal friction angle less than 30°; (ii) main effects wave action on are scour, erosion, cyclic impact slope: erosion slope height 1.0 m, 90 kPa, 30°, impaction at area more 2.0 m (iii) valley reservoirs, softening rock soil reduces cohesion, which commonly within 30 days; load damages structure angle. influence waves related velocity. antiwave broken energy an index whether long term, strength, structure, resistance. present research helpful better evolution process collapse.
